Teaching Art

Teaching Art is more than achievable goals and correct use of materials, it’s the connection you make with each student, the moment when they finally figure out how to use a specific skill. To me the most valuable piece of being a teacher is seeing the “aha” moments in the students after I show them a new skill. After practicing for the first class, they see that they can use this skill in the classroom or even at home.

Assessment and Goals are important for the trajectory of the year to year lessons. It is important for giving the students a foundation to build upon. I strive to give students the skills they need in order to know and understand the elements of art. The foundations of visual, digital and design. I hope to inspire the exploration of core values, social/emotional development, and collaboration. A good teacher will achieve goals and standards. A great teacher will do that and capture a students heart, inspiring confidence and power in their art as words.

I believe that understanding and expanding our knowledge on other cultures are important in a classroom. I would like to explore and educate my students about these cultures. Hopefully creating an environment that is open minded and empathetic. Touching on topics of importance that allows for students to express themselves in an artistic way.

What makes teaching special, It’s the greeting that you get when they first enter the classroom. Having students that are eager and excited to learn. Not focusing on the product that they create but the process and how they get to their beautiful creation. Seeing their ideas turn into beautiful artworks. Knowing that not every student is the same and expresses themselves differently. Seeing all the different styles of artwork come to life. It’s the opportunity to showcase your students’ work to everyone at the end of the year in a community art show. Helping to cultivate and bloom confidence.
