The Teaching Artist

The Teaching Artist

In my studies at Adelphi University I have enjoyed reading Eric Booth’s ideas about the teaching artist. His lessons reminded me of a quote I had heard as a child. “Those who cannot do, teach.” As I have transformed into a new version of myself as a teacher, I have changed the vocabulary for introducing myself.

I create art and I love the idea of having it in someone’s home.  A individual who would appreciate it as much as I do. This however to me isn’t the “do”. The art of teaching and creating art can coincide. I think we are all helping each other learn. So as my students learn from me and get inspired, so am I.

We are all transforming each other’s personal artworks into meaningful expressions and experiences through process. The product is made from our experiences and what we have learned along the way. Almost as a time capsule.
